Use Your Mind
Use Your Mind
by Langston Jones
You are to use your mind. To often people use only their emotions to give God the praise. They just want to feel good for the moment. For me and I not going to speak for you but it is a struggle to stay focus on God’s way. I am in constant battle with my desires and my emotions. Sometimes I catch myself giving in to my desires to have it my way. But because I am in constant labor with the word I know when I have step out of God way and into My way. When I do that I feel a need to sit down and think. I need to use my mind and get back on God path. Paul knew that we would give way to this kind of pressure. We would on occasions give in to our emotions and seek our own desires.
1 Corinthians 14:13-17
13 The one who has the gift of speaking in a different language should pray for the gift to interpret what is spoken.14 If I pray in a different language, my spirit is praying, but my mind does nothing.15 So what should I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.16 If you praise God with your spirit, those persons there without understanding cannot say amen to your prayer of thanks, because they do not know what you are saying.17 You may be thanking God in a good way, but the other person is not helped.
I think most people would believe that this message is to be interrupted to mean when we publicly pray. I think that is true but I also believe this: In everything I do I will be judge and the word is the rule by which I shall be judge. I believe that I should operate in God Will. In order to be in the will of God I must follow and obey his Commands. See About Us.
6 When you pray, you should go into your room and close the door and pray to your Father who cannot be seen. Your Father can see what is done in secret, and he will reward you.
Publicly we give thanks, we give glory, and honor to the Lord for all he has done. When we sit down together to talk the first thing I should do in my mind is to give thanks to God for this opportunity to talk and be with you. I should pray to God let me hold back my desires, my emotions so I may be able to understand your petition and God’s will in this meeting. Let me use your (God’s) words to communicate to you and your (God’s) ears to hear. To use God’s Tools I must use my mind. When I do these thing I am showing my faith and love in God.
37 Jesus answered, ”‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.
When I do not give all of me to God then I am using my old mind, my old self which is dead. I am selfish and lazy when I do not use my new self and the tools and talents that God has given me.
1 Corinthians 12:1-3
1 Now, brothers and sisters, I want you to understand about spiritual gifts.2 You know the way you lived before you were believers. You let yourselves be influenced and led away to worship idols—things that could not speak.3 So I want you to understand that no one who is speaking with the help of God’s Spirit says, “Jesus be cursed.” And no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” without the help of the Holy Spirit.
Whatever the purpose of our meeting it should be to serve God’s will. What I am telling you is our private thoughts should be about the building of God Church and the building up of each other. If we think this way then we will be clear in our logic and of our words and ideas. If God is not first then meeting is selfish.
1 Corinthians 14:5
5 I wish all of you had the gift of speaking in different kinds of languages, but more, I wish you would prophesy. Those who prophesy are greater than those who can only speak in different languages—unless someone is there who can explain what is said so that the whole church can be helped.
1 Corinthians 14:12
12 It is the same with you. Since you want spiritual gifts very much, seek most of all to have the gifts that help the church grow stronger.
1 Corinthians 14:19
19 But in the church meetings I would rather speak five words I understand in order to teach others than thousands of words in a different language.
1 Corinthians 14:26
26 So, brothers and sisters, what should you do? When you meet together, one person has a song, and another has a teaching. Another has a new truth from God. Another speaks in a different language, and another person interprets that language. The purpose of all these things should be to help the church grow strong.
19 “Also, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about something and pray for it, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20 This is true because if two or three people come together in my name, I am there with them.”
