Elimelech means God is King
Hebrews 11:1 Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it. 2Faith is the reason we remember great people who lived in the past. 3 It is by faith we understand that the whole world was made by God’s command so what we see was made by something that cannot be seen.
Elimelech was a leader in his community he had a responsibly to protect and provide for his subjects in this time of famine. God had given his promise to Abraham and Elimelech forgot the promise. Elimelech a leader was to give support and encourage his subject to trust in the Lord. He could have done so much good for his people to show that God is King. Elimelech did not do what a good King would do he took his family to a foreign land. He ran away from his responsibility as a King.
In the foreign land Elimelech losses his life, his sons die and all his wealth was loss. All of these things happened because Elimelech stepped out of the will of God. Naomi followed her husband to this foreign land and now she is alone with her daughter-in-laws Oprah and Ruth. So she tell them her plans. She is going back to her home, Bethlehem. Naomi did not force her daughter-in-laws to go with her, she did not try to bride them or force them in anyway. She loved her daughter-in-laws but if they were going to follow her they would do it own their own accord. They would do it because she wanted them to. To often children are force to do something because of some kind of threat or promise. They only way to ensure Faith in a thing is to accept it freely. A child must make it own choice he can not be forced. If he is forced he will never mature to become the spiritual leader that God wants. He will not have a mature faith. Forced faith is something that last only as long as you are controlled by it.
Oprah chose not to go with Naomi and Ruth chose to go. Because of faith and hope God is able change things. For Naomi and Ruth he did.
