2013 Goals – Give up Self

A few days ago I was given this to read Galatians 5. I so recommend that we all take some time to read and reflect on this chapter for a minute or two. I chose as my interest of reflection on these verses 13-15. What stood out to me was that we were called to be free and not to use our freedom to indulge the flesh. If I think about this I know that I am save because of God’s Grace and mercy. He sent his son to die for us so we might have everlasting life. His Son died and rose so I can be free from sin. His example, his life is my example and my calling. It is the example I must follow. Do not use your freedom to indulge in the flesh. Christ died for us so that our sins would be wipe clean, so that we could be free, so lets ask ourselves have we indulge our flesh to get what we desired. It is a small thing to us, who are human, we see with human eyes and sometime because we have not practice what we believe we miss our calling.

When we talk about flesh we are talking about sin and when we accepted Christ we are now free of sin, we are cleaned up and created new and called to follow Christ. So rather then indulging the flesh we are to serve one another humbly in Love.

How do you serve humbly in love, Christ is our example. So we should follow his lead. He told us, he came to serve and give his life for many. He did not sit at home and wait for someone to serve him so they might be healed. He went out and found them that needed help and served them.

It is not easy to leave the comfort and connivence of one home to help another but we must try. And just like Christ we may be rejected.and may suffer for our trying. There will be some that will reject and refuse our help. We must be better and bigger then that and continue to do God’s will. Now many of you may be seating on your hands and saying I don’t know God’s will for me because he hasn’t told me yet. You are in a state of denial Christ has told you what God will is for you and has given you power to do his will. In Matthew the 28 chapter Jesus tells us that all authority in heaven and earth has been given to him. He then tell us, his followers to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit teaching them to obey everything he commanded. Christ did not give us an idle command without power he gave us this command with power he said I will be with you till the end of the age if you my will.

We know his will but to exercise it we have to know something about and have a relationship with him and that means we must be lifetime disciples of God’s ways and his teachings. We must not trust the ways of this world but we must learn the way and trust in God.

Follow God’s Example and walk in the way of Love give up self. Just as Christ gave himself. now read Ephesians 5.
