Read Genesis 14

4 Kings

Amraphel king of Shinar,
Arioch king of Ellasar,
Chedorlaomer king of Elam,
Tidal king of nations;

made war with 5 kings (the first war recorded in scriptures)

Bera king of Sodom,
Birsha king of Gomorrah,
Shinab king of Admah,
Shemeber king of Zeboiim,
Zoar king of Bela

Join together in the vale Siddim

For 12 years they were subject to the authority of Chedorlaomer king of Elam
They paid tribute

In the 13 year they revolted

In the 14 year Chedorlaomer king of Elam and the Kings with him, brought war to the land and the people in it.
The defeated these people
the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim,
Zuzims in Ham,
Emins in Shaveh Kiriathaim
Horites in their mount Seir
the Amalekites and Amorites that lived in Hazezontamar

The four King brought war to the land because the
the five refused to pay tribute to Chedorlaomer king of Elam in the 13 year of his rule. It took 1 year for the king Chedorlaomer to gather his forces for the war. He travel throught the land and brought war to the people.

The five kings went to fight but were not a match for the four. In the 12 years they did not prepare themselves for they were a wicked people and not wise they just wanted to satisfy their desires. The 4 kings routed the land and took what they wanted.

The battle of the 5 Kings
Bera king of Sodom,
Birsha king of Gomorrah,
Shinab king of Admah,
Shemeber king of Zeboiim,
Zoar king of Bela

against the 4

Amraphel king of Shinar,
Arioch king of Ellasar,
Chedorlaomer king of Elam,
Tidal king of nations;

occurred at

vale of Siddim (salt sea) which was full of slimepits

Sodom and Gomorrah was defeated there and the army of the 5 kings fled some even fell into the slime pits and some hide in the mountains.

The 4 kings took the procession of Sodom and Gomorrah and went their way. They came upon Lot who lived in Sodom, Abram brother, they took him and all his goods.

One of Lot’s servant escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew(the fist time Hebrew is used with Abram and the chosen people as a nation. a nation surely must have an army to provide security and make treaties with other nations ).

Abram is living in the plain of Mamre.
He has an agreement with
an Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and
the brother of Aner.
They were confederate with Abram.

Abram heard that his brother had been taken so he armed his 318 trained servant and pursued 4 kings with hus confederate brothers.

Compare Abram trained men to Sodom and Gomorrah there is no mention of a trained men.

Abram’s strategy he is going to divide his forces and attack at night. His planning and fore-thought he was able to defeated them at Hobah, which was left side of Damascus. Being prepared and having a plan not wasting your time on sinful desire will prepare you for the battle.

Abram has won the battle he is headed back home. He has the goods that was taken his brother Lot and his Goods and all the people that were taken.

Abram return from the slaughter of the King Chedorlaomer brought him through the valley of Shaveh called the king’s dale. The king of Sodom met Abram in this valley.

And Melchizedek king of Salem a priest of the most high God brought bread and wine to Abram. Melchizedek blessed Abram, and blessed the most high God. He thank God for delivering the enemies into Abram hands. And Abram gave him tithes of all the Goods.

Who is Melchizedek? He has no genealogy at least none is mentioned in scriptures. Some believe he is the pre-incarnated Christ. Abram trusted Melchizedek and call him a priest of the most high God and respected him as such.

The king of Sodom said to Abram give me my people and keep the goods you recovered. Abram told the king of Sodom no thanks.

I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth.

I will not take anything from you not even a shoe lace. You can have all that belong to you. This is so you will not be able to say that you made me rich.
Just give that which the young men have eaten, and a portion to the men which went with me. They are Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre let them have take their portion.
