Genesis 9

In much of chapter 9 God is speaking. And he wants Noah and his sons to pay close attention. God told them to be fruitful multiply  and replenish the earth this is a new start for mankind. What is  important is God is in the process of restoring the world.  Again man is given charge  (husbands ship) of the world.

  • Man will have dominion over all living thing
  • Every Living thing will be meat for man
  • God give them to us but he owns them
    • don’t waste or misuse them
  • Not to eat raw meat
    • or the blood
  • Remember now Abel murder — Cain was not put to death
  • God now tells Noah. He will hold mankind and every living thing accountable for the taking of a human life.
  • be fruitful and multiply
  • God spoke to Noah and his sons he establish his covenant with every living creature on the Ark
    • Will not cause a flood to destroy
    • gave us a token
  • Noah drinks and Ham see his nakedness
    •  in this time to see a father naked is a breach of family ethic
      • weaken the family structure and father’s authority
    • the problem is Ham in pride exposed his father to his brothers
  • Ham and his son Canaan is curse by Noah
    • and his seed
  • Pay close attention to verse 23 how Shem and Jepheth cover their father
    • The great care they took to cover their father
    • to protect, restore,  perserve the father’s authority

Genesis 9

    1. God blessed Noah and his sons
      1. God said  to them Be fruitful and multiply  replenish the earth.
        1. again he blesses mankind a new life see Gen 1:27-29
        2. A new start for mankind
    2. And the fear of you and the dread of you
      1. Noah, Mankind will have dominion over every living thing
    3. Every moving thing that liveth
      1.  shall be meat for you;
      2. even as the green herb

    4. But flesh of raw meat you will not,
      1. The blood you will not eat,
      2. You must not kill
    5. And surely your blood of your lives will I require;
      1.  If a man life is taken a life is required
      2. even if it is taken by an animal
      3. the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
    6. Whoso sheddeth man’s blood,
      1. by man shall his blood be shed:
      2. for in the image of God made he man.
    7. And you,
      1. be ye fruitful, and multiply;
      2. bring forth abundantly in the earth,
      3. multiply therein.
    8. God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him (God spoke to all three at the sam time)
    9. establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you (he established a covenant)
    10. And with every living creature that is with you (everything on the Ark  established a covenant)
      1. fowl,
      2. cattle
      3. every beast of the earth with you;
      4.  from all that go out of the ark
      5. to every beast of the earth.
    11. And I will establish my covenant with you  (world shall not be destroyed by water again)
      1. neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood;
      2. neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
    12. And God said,
      1. This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and
      2. every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
    13. I do set my bow in the cloud, (is this the rainbow, all we need do do is look at nature to see God’s work)
      1. it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
    14. And it shall come to pass,
      1. when I bring a cloud over the earth,
      2. that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
    15. And I will remember my covenant,
      1.  which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh;
      2. the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
    16. And the bow shall be in the cloud;
      1. I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between
      2. God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
    17. And God said unto Noah,
      1. This is the token of the covenant,
      2. which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
    18.  And the sons of Noah,
      1. that went forth of the ark,
      2. Shem, and Ham, and Japheth
      3. Ham is the father of Canaan.
    19. These are the three sons of Noah
      1. and of them was the whole earth overspread.
    20. And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
    21. And he drank of the wine,
      1. was drunken;
      2. he was uncovered within his tent.
    22.  And Ham, the father of Canaan,
      1. saw the nakedness of his father,
      2. told his two brethren without.
    23. Shem and Japheth took a garment,
      1. laid it upon both their shoulders, and
      2. went backward,
      3. covered the nakedness of their father;
      4. their faces were backward,
      5. they saw not their father’s nakedness.
    24. Noah awoke from his wine,
      1. knew what his younger son had done unto him.
    25. And he said,
      1. Cursed be Canaan;
      2. a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
    26.  And he said,
      1. Blessed be the Lord God of Shem;
      2. Canaan shall be his servant.
    27.  God shall enlarge Japheth, and
      1. he shall dwell in the tents of Shem;
      2. Canaan shall be his servant.
    28.  And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.
    29. And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.
